I am an obsessive notetaker in meetings. It helps me keep track of what’s going on, but it also helps me fight off the exhaustion that I typically feel due to narcolepsy.
When I attend conferences or professional development meetings I love to take all the notes I have and put them into summaries that can be shared. Often times I’ll try to bring my laptop or a tablet with a keyboard so I can type my notes while in sessions. There are though, certainly many events that this just isn’t a possibility so when my husband surprised me with a RocketBook this past month I was intrigued, to say the least.

Rocketbooks are notebooks made with special paper that can be utilized with Frixion Pens and Frixion Markers that are erasable using friction (typically applying something hot or cold). I have used Frixion highlighters when quilting many times – but this was my first time using it with a notebook. And the genius behind this notebook doesn’t stop there — it also has an app where when you take a picture of your notes it will send it to the place you’ve designated (by marking icons on the bottom of each page). You also have the option to have it use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to send you a transcribed/typed version of your notes! Once you’ve uploaded your notes to your desired area simply wipe the pages clean and start over. No more wondering what notebook you took your notes in!!
After a day with my RocketBook I realized I was going to need a cover that could fit the Rocketbook, cleaning cloth, and Frixion Pen. Plus, I figured I’d check out what other Frixion Pens I could get my hands on that would allow me to have color options — because all good notes have lots of pretty colors 🙂
A quick Amazon search yielded me with an order of Frixion ColorStick Gel Pens and a Rocketbook Cover; both with same-day delivery! When the cover and pens arrived I immediately put them to the test.
The Frixion ColorStick Gel Pens wrote beautifully, and even more important erased with no issues in both the Rocketbook and on regular paper! I really loved that they even have an eraser on the cap so if you make mistakes while writing you can fix them. The Ball Point Pens you don’t have this same feature.
The Cover fits the Rocketbook great and the pen storage area was able to hold all 10 of the Gel Pens and had another pen holder where I placed my Frixion Ball Point Pen. I decided that the cleaning cloth I would simply lay on behind the last page of the RocketBook, instead of trying to tuck it into the pockets. The cover also had 4 business card size slots and 3 slots for slightly larger items. This is really helpful as I am chronically forgetting to bring business cards with me to meetings.
Update – December 2020:
After having my Rocketbook for an entire year, I have now purchased a larger top spiral bound Rocketbook that sits on my desk in my home office. It’s awesome for when I want to take notes during a meeting but don’t want to waste a bunch of post-it notes. I use this Rocketbook to take notes through the week and at the end of the week wipe clean what I don’t need anymore, and then transfer all of what I do want to keep either to one page and upload it to the cloud or use it as my to-do list for the following week.
I also found over this year coloring with Frixion Markers and Pens is the best way to battle Zoom Fatigue! Sitting in endless Zoom meetings but want something to help keep you awake and not make you look distracted. Pair some coloring pages with Frixion Bold Point Markers or for more intricate pages Frixion Fine Point Markers.
